Featuring Judy Morley, PhD
Executive Director, Seminary Ridge Museum & Education Center
Join us for the opening evening of History on the Square, presented in collaboration with the Gettysburg Foundation.
Dr. Judy Morley explores the life and legacy of Rufus R. Dawes and his great-grandfather, William Dawes—the often-overlooked “midnight rider.” Through this story, discover the individuals whose contributions helped shape the American narrative.
On March 6, 1865, Washington, D.C. hosted Lincoln’s Second Inauguration Ball. Drawing from the New York Times, Nancy Walker and Jef Savage (Danza Antiqua) will provide a vivid description of the ball, its infamous food fight, discuss how the ballroom served as a microcosm of societal politics and perform two dances from the ball in period clothing. Guests can join in a parlor game and a group dance.
